Roquetas De Mar is a popular tourist resort set against a beautiful mountain backdrop and uncrowded sandy beaches stretching for many miles. Although modern it still preserves a classic Spanish charm with excellent reataurants and lively bars evolved from a bustling fishing harbour. Its beginnings date from roman times and still retains its Moorish alley like streets and white washed houses ascending the hillside. Along the main road are numerous retaurants for relaxation, catering for different tastes and cuisine, also lively bars for your enjoyement. For the golf players then Playa Serena has a n 18 hole golf course only 200 meters from the beach. Historic sights include the ruins at the medival Castilla de Santa and other ruins and birdwatchers have a treat in store on the various salt lakes.
Roquetas de Mar is situated at the western end of the Gulf of Almeria , 16km from the capital. Roquetas De Mar is one of eight provinces of the autonomous regions of Andalucia and approximately 35 minutes form the airport at Almeria and well connected by modern dual motorways with Granada, Seville and Madrid.
